On 2 November 2011, the Report by the Governing Board of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) on the Institute’s activities for 2010-2011 was presented at the Education Commission Session of the 36th General Conference. The 36th session of UNESCO’s General Conference

UNESCO’s General Conference, which meets every two years, is holding its 36th session from 25 October to 10 November at the Organization’s Headquarters in Paris. Delegations from 193 Member States, Associate Members, as well as observers for non-Member States, intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are attending the session. The General Conference will decide on UNESCO’s proposed programme and budget for the 2012-2013 biennium, which gives priority to sustainable development, culture of peace and non-violence, with a special emphasis on gender equality, Africa, youth, Education for All (EFA), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) and the most vulnerable segments of society. It will also pave the way for early work on the Organization’s next Medium-Term Strategy for 2014-2019. Read more The 36th session of UNESCO’s General Conference

“Cultural Diversity: Building Bridges to Lasting Peace”

From 6 to 10 September 2011, UNESCO Director-General visited the Russian Federation for participation in the Yaroslavl Global Policy Forum and meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev.

The Yaroslavl Forum brought together renowned public figures from across the world, including former Heads of States, Ministers, Nobel Prize laureates and scholars, to explore the theme of “Modern State in an Age of Social Diversity.”

At the forum, Irina Bokova delivered a clear message that cultural diversity and cultural literacy are vital for building healthy societies and stable states. “Cultural Diversity: Building Bridges to Lasting Peace” was the theme of her address. The International Conference “Emerging Information & Communication Technologies in Higher Education-2011” was held on July 8–10, 2011 at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It became a joint effort of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education.
