UNESCO IITE released a series of Insight Reports with Recommendations to advance ICT skills development and support digital transformation in higher education

On 5 June 2026, UNESCO IITE and Huawei jointly released a series of Insight Reports with Recommendations on ICT Skills Development during the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit held in Shenzhen, China. The event brought together representatives of higher education institutions, ICT industry and international organizations to discuss the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of education and workforce development. UNESCO IITE was represented by Ms. Shafika Isaacs, Interim Director and Chief of Section for Technology and AI in Education at UNESCO.

The new publication series examines the current state and future perspectives of ICT skills development in nine countries: the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan. The series provides a comprehensive overview of the countries’ socio-economic contexts and digital landscapes, as well as highlights governments’ commitments to developing national economies and ICT industries.

The reports analyse the current state of policy and governance frameworks for digital transformation, ICT adoption and digital ecosystems and explore approaches to aligning higher education and TVET systems with labour market demands for ICT skills. They identify key challenges and provide recommendations for advancing ICT skills development to support the digital economy and address the needs of the AI era.

Developed by UNESCO IITE in partnership with Huawei within the joint project “AI Capacity Building in Arabic-Speaking Countries and Promoting ICT Education in Central Asia”, the publication series contributes to broader efforts of UNESCO Member States to accelerate digital transformation and facilitate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4.
