On 24 January 2023 – the International Day of Education, a webinar on Transformation of Higher Education for Sustainable Development was held by the UNESCO Chair in Education Science and Teacher Training at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Abai KazNPU). The aim of the webinar was to discuss the initiatives of the Transforming Education Summit, and to exchange existing methods, resources and solutions in the field of digital education.
The webinar was attended by heads and representatives of UNESCO Chairs, universities, scientific and methodological centers from Kazakhstan. The participants were welcomed by Mr. Darkhan Bilyalov, Rector of Abai KazNPU, and Mr. Magnus Magnusson, Acting Director of the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office. Ms. Ildana Khalitova, the Head of the UNESCO Chair in Education Science and Teacher Training at Abai KazNPU, was the moderator of the webinar.
Ms. Tatiana Murovana, Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE), was one of the speakers during the webinar, and shared the information about the decisions of the Transforming Education Summit (2022) related to the use of digital technologies in higher education. In her presentation, Ms. Murovana outlined the main principles of the Thematic Action Track of the Summit “Digital Learning and Transformation” and the Global Initiative “Connecting every child and young person with digital solutions”, aimed at ensuring and improving the quality of public digital learning for all as a reliable support for a holistic educational experience. The webinar also featured Russian-language resources developed by UNESCO IITE to enhance the ICT competencies of teachers and their professional development.
