Global education technology company JP.ik and UNESCO IITE officially launch a joint project aimed at enhancing inclusive, equitable, and sustainable learning environments in Kenya.
The partnership supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) – Quality education – by equipping teachers with innovative digital tools and enhancing their professional competencies through targeted training. Designed to respond to pressing educational challenges, the initiative places a strong emphasis on digital inclusion in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and the integration of greening principles in STEM education.
One of the cornerstones of the initiative is a pilot phase that will bring advanced ICT and AI tools directly into classrooms. As part of this phase, AI-enabled PCs developed by Intel will be introduced in selected educational institutions of Kenya. These devices will support teachers in implementing hands-on, tech-driven teaching strategies, allowing real-time exploration of inclusive and sustainable learning practices.
The initiative features several components designed to build teacher capacity, foster inclusive education, and promote sustainability in Kenya’s education system. A central element is the development of two comprehensive online training courses. The first, Greening STEM Education, focuses on integrating environmental sustainability into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics curricula. Leveraging the potential of ICT and AI, this course empowers educators with the tools and knowledge to embed sustainability principles into classroom practice, preparing students to address real-world environmental challenges. The second course, Digital Inclusion in TVET, targets vocational education and training professionals, offering strategies to enhance accessibility and inclusion for learners with diverse needs, including those with disabilities.
All project materials will be made widely accessible through the UNESCO IITE E-library for Teachers. To enhance visibility and impact, the project will be featured at major international events, highlighting its role in promoting educational equity, environmental responsibility, and digital inclusion. This will ensure broad dissemination of the project’s outcomes to educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders around the world.
Additionally, the initiative will be carried out with the support of the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO, playing a key role in ensuring local relevance and alignment with national education priorities. As a vital partner, the Commission will facilitate coordination with Kenyan educational institutions and government stakeholders, helping to embed the project’s activities within existing frameworks and policies.
By combining expertise, UNESCO IITE and jp.ik aim to impact education system through the strategic use of information and communication technologies, contributing to a more equitable and sustainable future for learners in Kenya and beyond.
