Call for Proposals: Publication Editing and Proofreading (Re-Advertisement)

Within the framework of the UNESCO IITE and SOU joint project “Promoting ICT Capacity Building and Open Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies” (2024-2026), Research on   Digital inclusion and e-learning for the senior adults were completed.  As a result of the Research, 4 publications have been produced.  UNESCO IITE is contracting an Individual Consultant to edit and proofread these publications, i.e.:

  • Collection of advanced cases of digital inclusion and e-learning for the older adults

standard editorial pages – 84,39 (calculated based on 1,800 characters per page, including spaces)

  • Advancing Digital Education for the Older Population: Comparative Analysis and Strategic Recommendations

standard editorial pages – 46,06 (calculated based on 1,800 characters per page, including spaces)

  • Policy Guidance on AIEnabled Digital Inclusion and ELearning for Older Adults

  • Teacher’s Practical Guidance on AI Digital Literacy for Older Adults

In accordance with the set objectives, the Individual Consultant will be responsible for the professional editing of the publications according to the following implementation plan:

 

TASKS

  1. Content Review:

1.1. Conducting a thorough review of the manuscripts to ensure clarity, coherence, and fluency.

1.2. Evaluating and improving the overall structure of both documents, ensuring a logical flow of descriptions and observations, assumptions and arguments, conclusions and recommendations.

  1. Language Editing:

2.1. Editing the text to ensure grammatical accuracy, proper syntax, and an appropriate academic tone, while making the language accessible and engaging for a broad readership, particularly education professionals and stakeholders.

2.2. Simplifying complex sentences and unsuitable language where appropriate without altering the intended meaning.

2.3. The language editing includes rewriting where required to make the text read idiomatically. Formatting includes presenting footnotes and URLs in a consistent manner, in accordance with UNESCO recommendations (ref. UNESCO Style manual).

  1. Consistency:

3.1. Ensuring consistency in terminology, abbreviations, and formatting throughout the document, particularly concerning gender equality, ICT, AI, and GenAI terminology in educational settings.

3.2. Maintaining consistent use of abbreviations, citations, and references.

  1. Alignment with Guidelines:

4.1. Aligning the publication with UNESCO style and requirements for both electronic and printed formats, paying particular attention to bibliography and lists of references, citations, footnotes, and displayed matter (including tables, figures, text boxes).

4.2. Ensuring the manuscript meet the guidelines and requirements of the Style manual for the presentation of English-language texts intended for publication by UNESCO.

  1. Feedback:

5.1. Providing constructive feedback on the overall structure and content.

5.2. Suggesting the reorganization of sections or chapters if deemed necessary for enhanced clarity and fluency.

  1. Ethical Considerations:

6.1. Ensuring the document adheres to ethical standards of academic publishing.

6.2. Choosing the language, order of suggestions, etc. demonstrating awareness of and alignment with the infrastructural and other needs of populations in underserved areas.

 

PROJECT TIMELINE AND DELIVERABLES

Phase 1: Manuscript Editing

The Consultant will perform comprehensive editing on the full manuscripts in Word format. All edits will be tracked using Track Changes and accompanied by detailed explanatory comments. The editing process will focus on:

  • Ensuring accuracy, clarity, and coherence
  • Improving readability
  • Refining grammar and style
  • Verifying terminology accuracy
  • Enhancing overall text flow

Submit to UNESCO IITE by 23 August 2026.

 

Phase 2: Revision Integration

After receiving feedback from UNESCO IITE and the authors, the Consultant will:

  • Incorporate all agreed-upon changes
  • Create a revised manuscripts version
  • Ensure consistency across all edits

As a Final Deliverables the Consultant will submit a clean, final edited manuscripts of all 4 materials as Word document

Submit to UNESCO IITE by 28 September 2026.

Mandatory Requirements:

  1. Native English Speaker: The editor must be a native English speaker.
  2. Educational Background: A degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  3. Experience: A minimum of 5 (five) years of professional experience in editing academic publications, particularly in the field of education.
  4. Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure consistency and accuracy in all aspects of the text.
  5. Portfolio of Similar Work: Previous work includes editing academic publications related to education, inclusion, and technology. While experience with technology is not mandatory, it is highly desirable.

Recommended Requirements:

  1. Acquaintance with UNESCO Style: Knowledge of UNESCO’s style and requirements for publications, both electronic and printed.
  2. Familiarity with ICT Terminology: Familiarity with generally accepted terms and abbreviations related to Education and EdTech.
  3. Expertise in Inclusive Education: Demonstrated expertise in editing works related to inclusive and special needs education.
  4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with the project team.
