On 6 May 2022, UNESCO IITE, the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) and the Institute of Education (IOE) of Tsinghua University organized the online meeting “The Digital Transformation of University Teachers“.
The meeting brought together education experts from different countries and regions to discuss the issues, challenges and solutions for the digital transformation of university teachers.
Mr. Tao Zhan, Director of UNESCO IITE, participated in the online meeting. In his welcome remark, he highlighted the importance for higher education systems and institutions to develop the capacity to harness the power of digital technologies in order to ensure equity and quality of higher education and lifelong learning for all. Mr. Tao Zhan also became a moderator to the session “Digital Challenges for University Teachers and Global Responses” aimed to discuss the current practices and accumulated experience, as well as approaches to be used to address the challenges related to the digital transformation of higher education, including the cases presented by the International Institute of Online Education, Virtual University of Côte d’Ivoire and Indonesia Cyber Education Institute.
During the session “Exploring Future Roles of University Teachers”, Ms. Ekaterina Pushkareva, UNESCO IITE Programme Specialist, delivered a presentation on changing roles of university teachers and teacher professional development through the lens of UNESCO IITE projects and activities.
The online meeting was held within the joint collaboration between UNESCO IITE and UNESCO-ICHEI aimed to contribute to enhancing the quality of higher education through the use of digital technologies.
