On 18 September 2024, the Huawei ICT Talent Summit was held within the ICTWEEK Uzbekistan 2024 in Tashkent to discuss the issues of digital transformation of education and the importance of fostering digital skills development and supporting young ICT talents throughout the Middle East and Central Asia (ME&CA) in the digital era.
Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the IT Education Association, the Huawei ICT Talent Summit brought together representatives of public and business sectors, international organizations, higher education institutions of Uzbekistan, and the media.
Opening the event, Mr. Rustam Karimjonov, Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies, welcomed the participants and highlighted the achievements in IT education in Uzbekistan and the opportunities provided for young people to explore advanced technologies and enhance their digital and language skills to build a successful career in the ICT industry.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Wei Qingwei, Director of Human Resources at Huawei Uzbekistan, emphasized the increased career opportunities young people equipped with digital skills in technologies, such as AI, big data, and 5G, have, and noted that students from 15 universities in Uzbekistan currently have access to Huawei ICT Academy courses.
UNESCO IITE was represented at the event by Ms. Ekaterina Pushkareva, Programme Specialist of the Unit of Digital Pedagogy and Learning Materials, who delivered a presentation “ICT in Education for Digital Transformation: Developing Talents and Enhancing Skills for the Future” and spoke about the UNESCO IITE initiatives aimed at capacity-building on ICT in education and supporting the development of ICT talents through the elaboration of reports with recommendations for ME&CA countries.
During the event, the Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 for the Middle East and Central Asia presented in partnership with UNESCO IITE was officially launched in Uzbekistan. The competition intends to advance digital learning and opens opportunities for students to demonstrate their ICT talents and gain worldwide recognition for their achievements.
The ICT Talent Summit served as a platform for university students to engage with industry experts, learn about advanced technologies, and explore career opportunities in the ICT sector. The Huawei ICT Academy Ambassadors were appointed from among activists of local universities to act as a bridge between the university students and the ICT industry, helping to foster knowledge sharing and encouraging peers to engage with the latest advancements in ICT.
