UNESCO IITE Participated in the Round Table “Humanitarian Potential and Limitations in the Use of Digital Technologies in Teacher Education” of the All-Russian Scientific Conference “We Can Teach”

On 21 November 2024, the Russian Academy of Education hosted the All-Russian Scientific Conference “We Can Teach”, which was dedicated to the most acute issues related to the implementation of effective pedagogical practices, transformation of the content and teacher training models, as well as the use of digital resources in the pedagogical activities of HE teachers in the modern context.

In her welcoming speech to the conference participants, Olga Vasilyeva, the President and Academician of the Russian Academy of Education, stressed the importance of cooperation between the regional centers and innovative sites of the Russian Academy of Education for improving national pedagogical education. The plenary session was attended by Elena Kazakova, Director of the Institute of Pedagogy at Saint Petersburg State University, Chairman of the Federal Educational and Methodological Association in the field of higher education on EGSA 44.00.00 “Education and Pedagogical Sciences”, Scientific Advisor of the Center for the Development of Pedagogical Education of the Russian Academy of Education, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Education, Aidar Kalimullin, Director of the Institute of Psychology and Education at Kazan Federal University and Zhanna Sadovnikova, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, Candidate of Education.

The conference was organized in the format of face-to-face and distance round tables, discussions and scientific and practical intensive courses. Oksana Chigisheva, Programme Specialist of the Unit of Digital Pedagogy and Learning Materials at UNESCO IITE, Candidate of Education, Associate Professor, spoke at the round table “Humanitarian potential and limitations in the use of digital technologies in teacher education” (moderated by Professor Olga Zaslavskaya). She made the presentation “Resources of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education for developing the potential of teachers in the field of ICT use” and introduced UNESCO IITE activities, characterized the projects in the field of ICT and AI and the UNESCO IITE e-library for teachers, as well as shared information about upcoming webinars held by UNESCO IITE together with the partners. Oksana Chigisheva highlighted that the active use of diverse resources offered by UNESCO IITE allows teachers not only to raise awareness about ICT, but also to significantly expand the possibilities of using digital technologies in their daily teaching activities. Upon further discussion, the speakers and participants of the round table also talked about the impact of digital services on the cognitive functions of schoolchildren and students, the use of artificial intelligence in the methodical training of linguistics students and their research work.

As a result of the conference, several proposals were formulated where an important place was given to the intensification of the activities in the field of designing and implementing professional development programs for teachers aimed at mastering modern teaching methods and technologies, including the use of digital tools and resources.
