Presentation of the new online course “Introduction to Learning Analytics”

On 4 December 2023, the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) and the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) held an introductory webinar, aimed at presenting a new short-term online course on learning analytics developed by these partner organizations.

More than 80 education specialists from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan took part in the webinar. Ms. Tatiana Murovana (UNESCO IITE) moderated the event. The author of the course, Mr. Maxim Skryabin, an advisor to the Vice-rector and the Head of the scientific laboratory “Evidence-based Education and Learning Analytics” of the Southern Federal University, and a consultant on design and learning analytics elaborated on the learning analytics and its consepts, presented the main types and structure of the analytics process, and highlighted typical errors that occur when organizing learning analytics related activities.

In the second part of his speech, Mr. Maxim Skryabin described the structure of the new online course “Introduction to Learning Analytics”. This free course is designed for higher schools teachers and staff of universities and other educational organizations in Russian-speaking countries and is available on the platform of the International Institute of Online Education https://www.iioe.org. The course is developed for asynchronous self-study and contains five modules, which can be completed in 10 to 20 hours, depending on the individual pace of learning.
