Kgomotso Moahi is the Vice Chancellor of the Botswana Open University in Gaborone, Botswana.
She began her career at the University of Botswana as a lecturer focusing on the application of information technology in library and information management. She rose through the ranks to full professor of Library and Information Science, whilst also serving in various leadership capacities such as Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, and acting Vice Chancellor. Prof Moahi retired from UB after 34 years of service and joined the Botswana Open University as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Services, and was later redeployed to the academic services division as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Services. She became acting Vice Chancellor on 1st April 2023 until her appointment as Vice Chancellor on 1st March 2025.
Professor Moahi currently serves as a Board Member of the International Council for Distance Education (ICDE). She is also a member of the Finance Sub-Committee of the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE). She serves as the Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Southern African Development Community/Centre for Distance Education (SADC-CDE) which is based at the Botswana Open University.
Nationally, Professor Moahi participated in the development of the Botswana National ICT Policy, known as Maitlamo. She has participated in a European Union project targeting the development and use of health data (BEANISH) in Botswana. She also recently chaired a team that developed a draft Open Science Policy for Botswana; and is a member of the Botswana National Data of the International Science Council (CODATA).
Professor Moahi’s expertise and interests include open and distance learning strategies; higher education governance and policy; indigenous knowledge management; open access and open science. In her current position she seeks to drive digital transformation for open and distance learning.
