Objectives
The webinar aims to bring together educators, researchers, institutional leaders and policymakers from across educational levels and regions to discuss how AI and digital technologies can support student learning and development. The webinar intends to:
-
present the key findings of the analytical report and the global case collection, including major trends, challenges, success factors and policy implications;
-
discuss the theoretical and pedagogical foundations of AI and digital technology integration, the alignment of technology with pedagogy, and AI’s potential and risks for human development;
-
showcase selected cases from different countries illustrating how institutions design and implement innovations in their educational contexts;
-
facilitate the exchange of experience among educators, researchers, institutional leaders and policymakers;
-
formulate practical recommendations for the effective integration of AI and ICT to improve student learning and development, and to advance inclusive, equitable and human-centered digital transformation in education.
Key Issues for Discussion
As part of the webinar, a dedicated discussion will be organized around the following key issues:
-
What are the main trends and patterns in the application of AI and digital technology across educational levels and subject domains?
-
How can technological solutions be aligned with pedagogical and ethical principles to ensure equitable and meaningful learning outcomes?
-
What are AI’s potential and risks for human development, including academic integrity, cognitive offloading, well-being and student agency?
-
What systemic and contextual factors (infrastructure, teacher readiness, data governance, cultural specificities) influence the effectiveness of implementation?
-
What success factors and recommendations can be identified for educators, institutions and policymakers?
These questions will be addressed during the panel discussion “From Insights to Impact” and the interactive Q&A session with participants.
Background
The education sector is experiencing an unprecedented period of digital transformation. Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI and immersive technologies (XR, VR, MR) are reshaping how institutions teach, learn, assess and support students. Schools and universities worldwide are increasingly expected to integrate these tools in meaningful, responsible and pedagogically sound ways. This shift extends beyond technological adoption: it raises complex pedagogical, governance and policy questions about how digital technologies can strengthen students’ skills, competences, well-being and readiness for a fast-changing world.
Recognizing this challenge, UNESCO IITE and CCNU conducted an analytical study on the use of AI and digital technology to support student learning and development across PreK-12, higher education, professional development and lifelong learning. The study included consultations with experts, researchers and practitioners, as well as a collection of case studies from different global regions illustrating concrete examples of implementation in diverse contexts. The output was a global analytical report and a global case collection, which form the basis of this initial webinar, with a particular focus on Asia.
Target Audience
-
Educators and teachers at all levels of education (from PreK-12 to higher education and adult learning);
-
University professors and researchers from all disciplinary areas;
-
Learning designers and educational technologists;
-
Representatives of educational institution administrations and education policymakers.
Expected Outcomes
-
Enhanced participant understanding of global trends and practices in the application of AI and digital technology for student learning and development;
-
Awareness of key challenges, success factors and policy implications related to human-centered digital transformation;
-
Practical guidance for educators, institutions and policymakers on the effective integration of AI and ICT;
-
Strengthened international dialogue and exchange of experience across regions and educational levels.
