UNESCO IITE co-organised the International Conference “Development of Education through Artificial Intelligence” in Kazan

On 20 September 2024, an international scientific conference “Development of Education through Artificial Intelligence” was held in Kazan. The event was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the USSR (Russia) joining UNESCO. The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education co-organized the conference together with the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan, Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, the National Coordination Center of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network of the Russian Federation, the University of Management “TISBI”, etc.

The conference served as a platform for the exchange of experience in the field of using artificial intelligence to improve the quality of education. The participants discussed current models, tools and technologies of artificial intelligence that are being implemented into the modern educational process, got acquainted with international experience, presented the experience of Russia and the Republic of Tatarstan, and developed common approaches to solving problems of education development through artificial intelligence.

The conference featured more than 50 presentations by international educational and scientific communities from Algeria, Belarus, Burundi, China, India, Morocco, Namibia, Singapore, South Africa, Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation, as well as staff members from UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The conference brought together participants from 70 regions of Russia, 20 UNESCO Chairs, 87 UNESCO Associated Schools and two UNEVOC Centers.

Tatiana Murovana, the UNESCO IITE programme specialist, spoke at the panel discussion “The Place and Role of Artificial Intelligence in General Education”. She elaborated on the possibilities of media and information literacy in the context of the challenges of artificial intelligence.

As a result of the conference, a resolution was adopted summarizing the participants’ vision regarding the prospects for using artificial intelligence as a tool that can help create a more efficient and accessible education system.
