On 14-15 October 2022, the Third All-Russian scientific conference “The problem of digital media content preservation” was held in Moscow. The event was organized by the Interregional Library Cooperation Center, the Russian Committee of the UNESCO Information for All Programme, the Russian Book Chamber and the Biblio-Globus Trading House with the financial support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.
The conference aimed at increasing the understanding of the relevance and scale of the problems of digital content preservation. It addressed the issues of selecting and cataloging digital information for long-term preservation, identifying best practices and including media and information literacy (MIL) in the policy and strategy of this area.
Among the conference participants were representatives of state and municipal libraries, publishing houses, bookselling enterprises, mass media, other organizations and government bodies in the field of science, culture, education, communication and information. Programme Specialist of UNESCO IITE Ms. Tatiana Murovana made a presentation at the conference titled “Media and information literacy in the context of digital information preservation”. The questions about the need to include the topic of digital content preservation in the MIL educational programs, as well as the relevance of this type of literacy for digital information preservation specialists, were raised in the presentation. At the conference Ms. Tatiana Murovana also showcased Russian-language UNESCO publications that can become the basis for activities in these areas.
