The first All-Russian Scientific Conference “Media Education in Russia and Around the World: Challenges, Technologies, Practices” took place on 26 March 2025 as part of the XV St. Petersburg International Educational Forum. The conference was dedicated to the problems of developing the media education system and improving the media and information literacy of the population, which are becoming increasingly relevant in the modern world of information risks.
The conference was organized by the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia with the participation of the Russian Committee of the UNESCO Information for All Programme, the Association of Media Education Specialists and the Belarusian Library Association.
The presentations and discussions within the conference were built around the goals and objectives of media education, as well as issues of improving, measuring and evaluating the level of media and information literacy of various target groups. The participants discussed current problems and prospects of media education, and the ways of developing media literacy as a key competence of our time. The discussions resulted in the resolution aimed to serve as the basis for interagency initiatives in education, science, and the media.
The conference programme included a plenary session, a round table discussion, thematic sections and workshops. The conference was attended by about 400 delegates from 60 regions of Russia and six foreign countries.
Tatiana Murovana, Programme Specialist at UNESCO IITE, participated in the round table “Media education in focus: mentoring, convergence and ways to form media literacy”, where she presented UNESCO achievements in the field of media and information literacy and relevant Russian-language resources, as well as shared international experience in the work of school media centers and competence centers for the promotion of media and information literacy.
