On September 4-7, 2018, the UNESCO IITE took part in the Regional Meeting of National Coordinators of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) of Europe and North America. The Regional Meeting (Conference) was dedicated to the ASPnet’s 65th anniversary and organized by the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan (Russian Federation), the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, the UNESCO ASPnet National Coordination Center and the University of Management “TISBI”.
Participants of the Conference plenary session heard addresses by distinguished guests, including the UNESCO Special Envoy for Intercultural Dialogue Mr. Mintimer Shaimiev, Secretary – General of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO Mr. Grigory Ordzhonikidze, International Coordinator of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network Ms. Sabine Detzel, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education Mr. Tao Zhan, Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Ms. Irina Potekhina, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan Mr. Rafis Burganov.
In total, the Conference gathered more than 120 specialists from 30 countries and 22 Russian regions. The Сonference featured the presentation of the online platform of the UNESCO Associated Schools and a new guide for National Coordinators, as well as statements by the National Coordinators of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network of Europe and North America and the Coordinators of the UNESCO ASPnet of Russia.
During the Conference, UNESCO IITE held a session titled “The Potential of ICT for Intercultural Communication and Education”, in which the Institute’s partners and experts took part, including Deputy Director-General of the HSEDU (China) Mr. Hui Cheng, President and CEO of Co. Ltd. “SVEGA-Computer” (Russia) Mr. Vladimir Blinov, Director of the Children’s Health and Recreation Center “Sosnovy Bor” (Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russian Federation) Ms. Yana Ivanova
The Conference concluded with the Meeting of the International Coordinator of the UNESCO ASPnet Ms. Sabine Detzel with National Coordinators of the UNESCO ASPnet. The Meeting participants, led by Ms. Sabine Detzel, discussed the most acute and pressing issues related to the work of the UNESCO Associated Schools. After the Meeting, the participants adopted the Declaration of the Regional Meeting of National Coordinators of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network of Europe and North America.
