Individual consultancy: review of digital technologies and tools used for assessment and feedback in higher education (deadline extended)

The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) is seeking an individual consultant to develop a summary report with guidelines for educators and administrators based on review of digital technologies and tools used for assessment and feedback in higher education.

The study is conducted within the project ‘Promoting ICT Capacity Building and Open Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies’ aimed to foster digital transformation of education for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 and implemented jointly by UNESCO IITE and Shanghai Open University.

Scope of work

Given the recognition of open education and the move to online teaching and learning, the specific objective of the study is to raise awareness of HE stakeholders and encourage ODL institutions and conventional universities to rethink assessment in the era of AI and digital technologies with the aim to enhance education quality and ensure fair and valid assessment. The outcomes of the study will include:

  • an overview of trends, opportunities, and challenges relevant to assessment in the era of AI and digital technologies,
  • a review of digital technologies and tools used to provide assessment and feedback, with particular focus on open digital technologies and tools that might be applicable in higher education across different countries and education systems, and
  • elaborated guidelines for educators and administrators on how to select appropriate e-assessment procedure, including digital technologies and tools.

In line with the objective and expected outcomes, the individual consultant shall perform the following tasks:

  1. Based on review of digital technologies and tools used for assessment and feedback in higher education, develop a summary report with guidelines for educators and administrators on how to select appropriate e-assessment procedure. The summary report shall be produced in English and structured as follows: a) a narrative about 15,000 words; b) bibliography and annex. The provided information shall be based on the consultant’s expertise and knowledge in the field of ICT-related education, data gathered from reliable sources and professional network.
  1. Deliver a presentation and contribute to a discussion at the webinar on assessment in higher education in the era of AI and digital technologies organized by UNESCO IITE for representatives of open universities and conventional higher education institutions.
Candidate profile
  • Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent degree) in the field of education, social sciences, pedagogics, ICT, or a related field. PhD is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in conducting research and developing reports in the field of ICT in education and digital pedagogy.
  • Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English.
Timeline

The consultancy will take place from May to September 2024.
