The key objective of the project ‘Building the future schools through ICT competency development’, implemented jointly by the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) and Weidong Cloud Education Group (China), is to investigate the new ICT-based educational environment support and facilitate new competencies of the 21st century schools, with particular focus on TVET institutions. The project activities cover a wide range of issues within the transformation of TVET and enhancement of school capacities to create sustainable ICT-based educational ecosystems and develop relevant skills of individuals to meet the demands of the modern labour markets and evolving social systems.

Within the project’s further advancement and in pursuance of the UNESCO Greening Education Partnership initiative (Action Area 3 ‘GREENING CAPACITY’), UNESCO IITE aims to support education professionals, including TVET specialists, through the integration of climate education in teacher training curricula, thus building the capacity of key education stakeholders in the areas of green transition and meaningful climate action.

UNESCO IITE contemplates to design, develop and launch an online training crash course for educators dedicated to the essence and benefits of building green and sustainable skills in and through TVET. The course will introduce TVET specialists to the growing need for workforce with green skills, to the job sectors with high potential to adopt and improve greener practices.

Generally, the course materials will focus on the issues of climate resilience, green transition and Circular Economy towards responsible development and sustainable improvement.
