Call for an individual home-based consultant for Teacher Capacity Building and Youth Coding Initiative Support

UNESCO IITE invites applications for an individual home-based consultant position for Teacher Capacity Building and Youth Coding Initiative support to steer the ongoing projects and initiatives towards their objectives and serve as an integral part of the Project Task Forces, taking active part in the meetings and discussion pertaining to the designated project initiatives.

Terms of Reference

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Unit of Teacher Professional Development and Networking, the Individual Consultant shall engage in implementation of TPDN activities, in particular in drafting concepts, reports and work plans. The Consultant shall play a pivotal role in steering the ongoing projects and initiatives towards their objectives and serve as an integral part of the Project Task Forces, taking active part in the meetings and discussion pertaining to the designated project initiatives.

In particular, the consultant shall support implementation and coordination of the Unit’s projects: “Teacher Capacity Building with AI and Digital Technologies: E-Library for Teachers” and “UNESCO/CODEMAO Youth Coding Initiative”.

In particular, the Individual Consultant shall:

  • In close cooperation with the project’s donor NetDragon (ND), develop a guide for the “Teaching in the 21st century” global teacher competition held within the “Teacher Capacity Building with AI and Digital Technologies: E-Library for Teachers” (hereinafter referred to as the “ND project”). The guide should include the introduction, objectives, target audience, description of the competition process and rules, evaluation process with criteria, and awards. Prepare relevant announcements for the E-Library, the competition’s website, and the IITE’s website. Provide the guide and announcements before April 20, 2024.
  • Provide a review of the cutting-edge survey on the ICT capacity of teachers in terms of the use of e-learning tools and platforms, conducted in Serbia and Egypt within the national partner engagements for the ND project by May 10, 2024.
  • Provide a preliminary review of the submitted teachers’ projects and pre-select the relevant entries of the “Teaching in the 21st century” global teacher competition by June 30, 2024.
  • Submit quarter 1 and quarter 2 reports on the achievements of the ND project by June 2024.
  • Prepare and submit the brief description of developed news and articles for the IITE’s newsletter from January to June 2024 and one news article for the UN in Russia bulletin before July 1, 2024.
  • Draft the announcement, agenda of the IITE’s representatives’ participation, and a PPT for the Chief of the Unit presenting the relevant achievements of the IITE for the Global Smart Education Conference 2024 to be held in Beijing, China on August 18-20, 2024. Submit the aforementioned set of materials before August 10, 2024.
  • Prepare a report on the status of activities held within the national partners’ engagement within the IITE-ND joint project with Serbia, Russia, and Egypt, particularly related to the impact of the surveys, competitions for the accumulation of OERs, teacher training workshops, and submit this report by August 8, 2024.
  • Draft terms of reference (ToR) and draft scenarios for developing the content for two courses to be launched for the E-Library platform aimed at: course 1 – promoting green education in secondary school educational settings; course 2 – enhancing teachers’ creativity and innovative thinking with ICT and AI. Submit the ToR and two draft scenarios before September 20, 2024.
  • Draft an agenda for the Second international teacher training on coding within the “UNESCO/CODEMAO Youth Coding Initiative” (hereinafter referred to as the “CODEMAO project”). Prepare a plan for the training specifying the target audience, objectives, and structure of the training and submit before October 1, 2024. Participate in online meetings with the focal points/offices of the target countries of the project (Kenya, Namibia, Congo-Brazzaville, Thailand) and prepare minutes of the meetings, including the further steps. Submit the draft agenda, plan, and minutes with the further steps before October 10, 2024.
  • Prepare brief quarter 3 and quarter 4 project activity reports for the ND project and final yearly reports for the ND and CODEMAO projects. Submit work plans for the year 2025 for the ND and CODEMAO projects. Submit two quarter and two-year reports and two work plans before December 12, 2024.

 

Required background and qualifications

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in teacher education, digital learning, education, social sciences or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in supporting and supervising the development and sustainability of e-learning and e-training platforms.
  • Experience in drafting concept notes, reports, and other project-related documents for initiatives aimed at promoting the use of advanced technologies for teacher capacity building.
  • Experience in organizing and coordinating teacher competitions, preferably at the international level, is desirable.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, adept at handling numerous tasks concurrently while honoring deadlines.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal capabilities, skilled in fostering constructive professional discussions.

Languages

Fluency in spoken and written English, as well as native proficiency in the Russian language, are necessary.
