UNESCO IITE shares good practice of talking about complex themes with adolescents

UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) and Belarus Association of UNESCO Clubs came out with a joint initiative targeted at adolescents for development of good practices in building successful future. On November 16, 2017 this initiative was presented at the Ministry of Education of Belarus Republic and at the Minsk City Education Development Institute. It received warm welcome from the professional teachers’ community and was recommended for implementation to all regional Departments of Education to improve the promotion of healthy lifestyle among learners.

IITE welcomes the launch of an online resource for adolescents in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan

TEENS.KG an online resource for adolescents and youngsters has been introduced in Kyrgyzstan in the beginning of November. Brought together by UNAIDS and UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE), this new portal joins TEENSLIVE - the international family of online resources for adolescents in Russia, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Kyrgyz popular NAMBA media portal took the responsibility for supporting and developing the new site. NAMBA plans to launch the Kyrgyz language version of TEENS.KG in the nearest future.

Two separate International Forums on ICT in Education took place in the People’s Republic of China as part of the UNESCO-CFIT Project, focusing on the importance of ICT in Education and its indisputable potential to assist in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4. In accordance with the Qingdao Declaration (2015), the International Forum on ICT and Education 2030 in Qingdao, and theDujiangyan International Forum acknowledged that today’s world has made knowledge and familiarity with ICT essential for every girl and boy, woman and man. IITE UNESCO celebrates 3 mln views of newly released animation videos for adolescents 

A series of six science popular edutainment videos for adolescents on healthy lifestyle and relationships have been recently created through collaborative efforts of UNESCO IITE and Youtube channel “Nowchpok”. Within 5 months from the moment videos were published on Youtube and in social media 6 episodes have scored more than 3.5 mln views. These videos intend to give clear and simple answers to the difficult questions young people may ask themselves on their way from childhood to adulthood.

Straight talk about parent-child relationships and HIV prevention: live webcast

On November 29, the second episode of the parent education programme “Mamma mia!” was released on the platform of PSYCHOLOGIES magazine in the social network ODNOKLASSNIKI. A moderator and host of the series Lika Dlugach welcomed six outstanding guests – experts, psychologists and famous parents – to talk about mutual understanding between generations and some issues that might occur in parent-adolescent relationships. Among the guests were: Timur Mursaliev, adolescent psychologist; Tatyana Lazareva, TV/Radio host and mother of 3 children; Evgeniya Prohoda, social activist and mother of 2 children; Vinay P. Saldanha, UNAIDS Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia; and Tigran Yepoyan, UNESCO Regional HIV & Health Education Advisor. In the course of the livestream talk show, the guests discussed an important question – how families can overcome challenges they face and what should they do if this challenge is HIV? Experts from seven regional countries including representatives of ministries of education, NGOs and international organizations discussed and reviewed the Guide. Guidelines on adaptation of the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers were published in Russian language.

The ICT Competency Framework for Teachers (UNESCO ICT-CFT)were developed in 2008 and improved in 2011 by the UNESCO cross-sectoral working group based on consultations with experts in the field from all world regions. The aim of the Framework is to support the UNESCO Member States in developing national (regional) policy on teachers’ ICT competence and establishing the standards in this field. The Framework has been enriched using feedback from experts and users worldwide, and has been translated into the several languages, including Russian. The Russian version of ICT-CFT was developed by the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) in cooperation with national experts from the Russian Federation and was officially presented in December 2011.

13th session of the Governing Board

The 13th Session of the IITE Governing Board was held in Moscow from 15 to 16 November 2012. At the opening session, Mr. Svein Osttveit, UNESCO Director of the Executive Office Education Sector (EO/ED) on behalf of the Director-General gave a speech on the current situation in Education sector of UNESCO, presented its objectives and the means to achieve them. He informed about recent launching of Education First by the Secretary General of UN, Mr. Ban Ki Moon.  Also he stressed on the current debates on post -2015 education agenda. He acknowledged the synergies between sustainable development and UNESCO’s core constitution and the role of education in reducing inequality.

UNESCO IITE participated in the FIFTH GLOBAL STUDIES CONFERENCE, which was held at the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Global Studies, Moscow, on 20-22 June. The Global Studies conference is to be held annually in different locations around the world, each of them will be selected for its particular role in the dynamics of globalization.
