Call for nominations for the UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development
The 4th edition of the UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) was launched on 30 January 2018. Within the framework of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD, the UNESCO-Japan Prize on ESD honours individuals, institutions, organizations or other entities for outstanding projects or programmes in the field of Education for Sustainable Development. “ESD empowers learners to take informed decisions and responsible actions for environmental integrity, economic viability and a just society, for present and future generations, while respecting cultural diversity. It is about lifelong learning, and is an integral part of quality education. ESD is holistic and transformational education, which addresses learning content and outcomes, pedagogy and the learning environment. It achieves its purpose by transforming society”. Generously funded by the Government of Japan, the ESD Prize consists of three annual awards ofUS $50,000 for each recipient. The three winners will be selected by the Director-General of UNESCO on the basis of recommendations made by the independent International Jury of the UNESCO-Japan Prize, consisting of five experts from all geographical regions. Applications should focus on a specific ESD project or programme of the nominee and have to be submitted via the online form in English or French by midnight of 3 May 2018. Nominations can be submitted online by the Permanent Delegation to UNESCO of the concerned Member State, or by an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO.
